Station 9 had its beginnings on June 24, 1968 when fifty-nine residents of the Elm section of the township met and founded the Elm Volunteer Fire Company No. 1. The first firehouse was an old two car garage next to the Elm Lake that was used for meetings and housed the company’s first piece of fire fighting apparatus. It was so small that some the drywall in the back wall had to be removed so that the truck with its ladder could fit.

The first president of the company was Anthony DiMeglio Jr. who also became the first Fire Chief. DiMeglio served in that position for six years.

Today, the station is located on the White Horse Pike and has a spacious building that houses several new pieces firefighting apparatus. A members room has also been added.

The Elm Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 is now known as Station 9 with the creation of the Winslow Township Fire District and the unified township fire department. The station has also grown from just a firefighting company to a fire/rescue station.
